Specializing in Women's Healthcare
Happy holidays to all of our patients! Best for a happy, healthy and prosperous 2019.
We will not be seeing patients on Monday December 24, Tuesday December 25, Monday December 31 and Tuesday January 1, 2019. The office will be open for phone calls and labs on December 24 and 31 until the early afternoon.
To all my patients:
It has been my joy and privilege to deliver babies (2,000 babies!), over the last 15 years. I truly appreciate the trust so many women placed in my guidance and coaching through their pregnancy journeys. I am grateful for the chance to have participated in all those moments of wonder and joy but also sometimes of challenge and sorrow. To all my past and current pregnant patients - thank you.
I recently decided to stop delivering babies, a change that will take effect by end of November. I will however remain part of the team here at OBGYN WESTSIDE, and continue to offer the full range of gynecologic care to our patients. About two years ago, I first became interested in, and then passionate about the possibility of a different approach to medicine called INTEGRATIVE medicine. It is a philosophy and a system of caring for people through a whole-person approach that, in addition to medications and surgery, focuses on areas such as wellness, nutrition, sleep, stress, and mind-body connection. It is powerful to experience and rewarding to see its effects, in my own health journey and in patients. To formalize my training in this field, I am currently completing my Integrative Medicine Fellowship through University of Arizona School of Medicine, under the direction of Dr. Andrew Weil. I plan to bring this comprehensive approach to the care of my patients and therefore will stop practicing obstetrics. I am lucky to entrust the pregnancy care of my patients to the excellent obstetricians of OBGYN Westside and am excited to welcome Dr Kahan to our team.
I am looking forward to continuing to provide the best of current and cutting edge medical approaches to gynecologic issues, while also adding the dimension integrative medicine approaches when appropriate.
Dr. Meryl Kahan has joined our staff effective November 26, 2018.
Dr. Kahan graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brandeis University in Massachusetts and received her medical degree from the State University of New York - Upstate Medical University College of Medicine in Syracuse. She completed her residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia where she was the recipient of a minimally invasive surgery award. Since her training, Dr. Kahan cared for women as a full-time board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist in New Jersey, most recently at Hackensack University Medical Center. Her interests outside of the field of ob/gyn include yoga, travel, physical fitness, and exploring New York City.
Dr. Kahan is looking forward to providing skilled, compassionate, and individualized care to our patients. Welcome aboard Dr. Kahan!
Please note the following:
1. We only use Mount Sinai East as our hospital for births and/or procedures.
2. We do not draw labs for other doctors - only for our practice.
Zika virus remains a significant concern for pregnant women and couples considering pregnancy in the near future. We are following the current Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and New York State Department of Health (DOH) advisories for identification, reporting, and management of suspected cases. Please be advised that official Zika virus testing and follow up recommendations are continuously evolving. The CDC currently recommends Zika testing only for symptomatic individuals with a recent history of possible exposure to the Zika virus. Exposure is defined as either recent travel to a Zika area (within 14 days of symptom onset), or unprotected sex with a partner who lives in or recently traveled to a Zika area. The New York City Department of Health has continued to allow for testing of pregnant women with Zika exposure regardless of symptom status. Please refer to the CDC and DOH websites for the most current recommendations. If you believe your pregnancy may be at risk, please discuss with your provider at your next prenatal visit.
